Seefeld at night

Seefeld Village Festival

Seefeld's village festival is held in July and has, in recent years, had a themed approach with candles lit in the centre of the village or traditional delicacies. Food, drink and crafts stands are set up in the pedestrian centre of the village and live music is put on at various bars and outdoor stages.

The Seefeld Blumencorso

The Blumencorso, Seefeld's Flower Festival is the biggest event on the calendar of the Seefeld plateau.

In fact, it's one of the larger flower festivals in Europe, with thousands of people either making daytrips to enjoy the colourful floats making their way around Seefeld, or actually booking their holidays to coincide with the fixed date of the first Sunday in August. The floats are entered by local hotels and businesses, and the larger ones are decorated with thousands of flowers.

The top prize in the competition for the best-decorated float is normally a fierce contest between Seefeld's leading hotels. The afternoon is finished off by an open-air party in the pedestrian centre which normally lasts into the early-morning hours.

The Seefeld Craft Fair

This celebration of the old Tyrolean handicrafts is actually a relatively recent addition to the calendar of events. Held at the beginning of September, it highlights the craftsmen and women of the area, who are trying to keep the local traditions alive in the modern world.

This tradition of bringing down the animals from the mountain pastures with a procession through the streets of the villages is still practised in many farming communities in the Tyrol. On the Seefeld plateau, one of the best areas to see this is in Leutasch in September. At the end of the first week of the month the sheep are brought down, followed by the cows a fortnight later.

Tyrolean Highland Games - Leutasch

An unusual event which is being held for the first time in the Leutasch valley in July. The Tyrolean Highland Games follow the format of the traditional Scottish games with events such as caber-tossing, tug-of-war and whisky-barrel rolling. The games will take place for the first time in the hamlet of Rödlach on July 21, 2007 (practice is the previous day) and are accompanied by appropriate music and entertainment.

Regular Events

Most of the villages on the plateau run a programme of regular open-air concerts. These are normally held in the village square and range from local bands to visiting Russian Cossacks or touring American school bands.

The church still plays a big role in the life of the communities and religious processions are a regular event during the summer. Some of the most important are on the Sundays of Corpus Christi and Sacred Heart towards the beginning of the summer, and the Feast of the Guardian Angel in September.

And, of course, many local organisations and clubs - such as the volunteer fire brigade - organise smaller events during the summer months with beer tents and music, which can be just as enjoyable as the larger festivals.
