Munich Airport - General Information

Munich airport is one of Europe's biggest international airports. Scheduled flights depart to and arrive from all over the world and most major airlines are represented. Some low-cost carriers, such as EasyJet, also fly from the UK to Munich with scheduled services.

Munich airport is undergoing expansion with a major new terminal being built - some facilities may be moved or become unavailable because of this construction work.

Charter flights are mainly operated to summer sun destinations and, since the development of the Austrian airports for charter arrivals, are relatively unimportant for visitors to the Tyrol.

Covered long term and short term car parking is available at the airport and is easily found opposite the main airport terminal building.

Car hire is available from the central "Z" area, along with shops, travel agencies, fast-food restaurants and rail connections.

Other snack bars are available on the various terminals. Movement between the airport terminals is best managed by means of the moving carpets and escalators on the underground level.

Munich Airport - Getting There

Munich airport is located 30 minutes drive to the northwest of the city near a main motorway junction.

Munich Airport

Munich is surrounded by a ring of motorways. Drivers should take the main A9 motorway linking Munich and Nuremburg to the north and then follow the exit signs onto the feeder motorway A92 for the airport.

A regular S-bahn service (S1 and S8 lines) is available from the main Munich railway station and other suburban stations in the city.

Airport transfers are available from specialised taxi and bus companies and can be arranged to meet and deliver to flights. Group minibus transfers are also available - with these it may be necessary to wait for later flights.
